USDA SAYS OKAY TO SHIP U.S. CHICKENS TO CHINA FOR CHEAP PROCESSING THEN BACK HOME FOR YOU TO EAT

Our friends from Eat Local Grown released a report that is pretty scary. Food Safety News states that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is planning to approve U.S. chickens to be sent in China for processing before being shipped back to the United States for sale.

It may look like it doesn’t make sense from economical point of view, but it is already being done with seafood, with one and only purpose- saving money. I bet you have never heard for this before. Seattle Times found that Pacific salmon and Dungeness crab are already being sent to underpaid Chinese workers for processing (filleting and de-shelling) and then sent back in United States.
The fact that the work is sold to the lowest bidder only worsens the things=exposing the people at potential risk. China does not have the same food regulations as the other well developed countries around the world. Their food sector is one of the riskiest one in the world. There aren’t any food inspectors from USDA in these factories. Even worse, the American citizens will never know if the chicken they prepared for lunch went all the way to China or not because China is not obligated to mark the “Country of Origin Labeling”.

You should be aware about what are you consuming in your body- how it is processed, what is made of and where it comes from. Note that this is more than just a problem of going vegan, because it is not just food. It also includes pharmaceuticals, vitamins and medical devices.
All of this points out to the potential issues with a globalized, industrialized food supply that is mostly unregulated. There is a big problem here that goes even as far as food adulteration and even wholly artificial food. We should do more about the food safety inspection and food testing. In order all of this to be done we will need the best quality labs for testing food of all types, analyzing its content and acknowledging its safety. If the food industry is aware that it couldn’t get away with improper standards which will lead to losing their license-things will be surely changed in a positive way. Forcing someone to consume substandard food is just not right.
Maybe now you are more interested in growing your own food and supporting the local growers?
