Have you ever been thinking on the topic of where the apple juice you drink comes from? The answer is – from China. About two decades ago, there was great apple juice produced by the industry of the United States, but, the increase of the production of apple juice in China has caused over-flooding of Chinese apple juice on the US market.
The F&WW has stated that above 70 percent of the apple juice consumed in the United States nowadays comes from the People’s Republic of China. The problem is that the government in China has acknowledged a problem that enforces a new law about the safety of the food they produce. Dozens of samples from three different cities in America have been tested, and it has been proven that some of the nation’s most popular brands of apple juice contain arsenic, Dr. Oz discovers. However, the FDA still claims that the apple juice is safe to drink.
The F&WW-Empire State-Paradigm tests have shown that the arsenic levels exceed those found in the apple juice in March 2010 by the St. Petersburg Times. According to the Florida newspaper, the levels are as high as 35 parts per billion.
The people from Mott’s, an American company with a long history, dating back from 1840s, did not give any comment to the high levels of arsenic found in its apple juice. Even FDA, which previously were concerned about the high levels of arsenic in the juice, which were more than 23 parts a billion, still have not commented on this. The greatest apple producer in the world is China, and it even sells concentrate for a small part of what is sold for in the United States. Another problem is that the Chinese apples are known to be bitter to the extent that they cannot be eaten. So, they have found a way to use them on the market by turning them into a powdery concentrate. This turning requires a complicated process. What consumers can see on the label no different types of fruit juices is apple juice or apple juice concentrate as the major or as a second ingredient. But, it is not said on the label that the apple juice comes from an apple juice concentrate, which, on the other hand, is imported from China, about 70 percent of it.
It is a disgrace what the US government does to the apple farmers. It has applied so many regulations and it has driven them out of business and on the top of that, it brings the apple juice in from overseas. We have come to a point where we do not even remember how an apple orchard looks like, and this is going to take its toll. We actually deserve to consume the bad, cheap juice from China since we have driven our local farmers out of business.
